Serving the Children of the World

Club Projects

Kiwanis Club members get together during the year for special projects to raise funds as well as to give back to the community and local youth. The principle fundraiser is at the annual Marin-Sonoma Fair in June where Kiwanis handle all the beer concessions. The Kiwanis and their families work long hours prior to the fair to set up the booths and stations, and during the four-day fair to serve the fairgoers.

The Club also participates in three community projects:

  • Wheely Fun Day: The Club partners with the United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of the North Bay for a family event in October called Wheely Fun Day. Held at the UCP’s Cypress School, the free event provides a carnival of fun activities to include arts and crafts, bike and skateboard demonstrations, free lunch and ice cream, and live entertainment. The event serves to increase community awareness of UCP and people with disabilities.
  • Turkey & Food Drive: Every year on the weekend before Thanksgiving, Kiwanis gather outside local grocery stores and ask customers to purchase turkeys, and other food items to donate after shopping. The food is given to the Petaluma People Services Center to distribute to less-fortunate families, seniors and others for Thanksgiving.
  • Christmas Cheer Bike Program: In the weeks prior to Christmas, the Kiwanis purchase a large number of bicycles and work with local charities to give the new bikes to less-fortunate children for the holidays.
