Classroom Micro-Grants

Established in 2015, the Kiwanis Club Micro-Grant Program awards grants of up to $500 to classroom teachers and programs based at Petaluma area schools. The grants can be used for a specific project or to fulfill a particular need. In the inaugural year, the Club awarded $15,000 in grants to more than 40 local teachers benefiting hundreds of local school children.  

For the 2016-17 School Year, the Club has granted more than $25,000 to 69 local teachers from public, private and alternative schoools. This amounts to a 66% increase in funding over the first year.

An overview of the funding for the 2016 program is as follows:

  • Total of funding requests: $49,412
  • Total grants approved for funding: 69 (56%)
  • Total of approved funding: $25,103
  • Average approved grant: $360
  • Funding range: $122 - $636

Representative examples of prior grant awards include:

  • Sets of novels and literary circles
  • Science and lab equipment
  • Field trips
  • PE equipment
  • Digital media supplies and equipment
  • Supplies for enrichment or elective classes
  • Supplies for maker programs and other campus clubs

Grants for the 2017-18 School Year will be awarded in September 2017. Applications will be available on this website beginning in August 2017.
